About Us

For decades, The Bottling Plant has been more than just a landmark in downtown Opelika—it has been the setting for unforgettable moments, from weddings and concerts to community fundraisers and celebrations of all kinds.

Originally opened in 1938 as a Coca-Cola bottling facility, the building once played a vital role in Opelika’s economy and daily life. At its peak, the plant was a full-scale operation where syrup was produced, bottles were filled, and distribution was managed under one roof. Syrup production ended in the 1970s, and the facility later transitioned to distribution only before ultimately closing in 2007. After four quiet years, the historic building was revitalized and reopened in 2010 as The Bottling Plant Event Center.

Since then, the venue has hosted a wide range of events, including weddings, Auburn University sorority events, concerts, conferences, birthday parties, and more—each adding a new chapter to its story.

Scott and Julie Brown became the owners of The Bottling Plant Event Center in June 2025, continuing their commitment to serving the Opelika community. After moving to the Auburn–Opelika area in 2017, they opened Whistle Stop Bottle & Brew in downtown Opelika in 2019 and quickly fell in love with the people and culture of the area.

Scott, a retired U.S. Coast Guard officer with 28 years of service, focuses on the operational and business side of the venue—overseeing bookings, logistics, and behind-the-scenes details that keep everything running smoothly(ish). Julie, affectionately known as the “CEO,” is the heart and creative force of The Bottling Plant. She curates the warm, inviting atmosphere guests love, personally styling and decorating the spaces throughout the year to reflect each season and event. Her attention to detail is what truly sets the venue apart.

Together, Scott and Julie are dedicated to preserving the historic character of The Bottling Plant while expanding its offerings to meet the needs of modern events. From its beginnings as a Coca-Cola bottling plant to its role today as a premier event venue, The Bottling Plant continues to evolve—remaining a beloved backdrop for connection, celebration, and lasting memories in the heart of downtown Opelika.
